Romancing Saga Minstrel Iso

I know what you're thinking.? He ain't no n00b. The exact opposite of a n00b. Especially this year. Don't worry, we're not breaking form, as he's only one half of the equation on this track, our first ReMix from 's score to. The arranger is newcomer Dustin Lagaly, alias Theory of Nonexistence, who writes: 'So, I have a playlist of about 400 songs that I play while I sleep and this source tune is one of them. I woke up one morning with it playing and realized 'hey.this could make a pretty kickass rock tune'.

  1. Romancing Saga Minstrel Iso Version

I have no idea what made me think that, seeing as it's nowhere close to the same style. Kinda one of those weird half-awake thoughts. But I got up and started writing it before my half-awake thought left me and it did indeed kickass.

Released in Japan as Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, this PS2 title is a remake of the original Romancing SaGa released exclusively in Japan for Super Famicom over a decade ago. What was presented to Japanese gamers as a remake is being presented to us as a completely new title to the expansive SaGa series.

At the time, I had no real intentions of submitting it because the guitars were really fake and stuff, but I asked Sixto for some feedback on it and the next day he offered to collab. So I finished the arrangement up and gave him the midi. A couple weeks later, this epic remix was created. The hardest part about making the song (in my opinion) was coming up with a name. I had a friend popping out random titles such as 'Oh Shit, I Lost my Loli', 'Dinkles Hurt My Feet', and 'A Day Without a God is a Day That You Don't Have to Worry About'.

Needless to say, that wasn't working. I started thinking about it and made some kind of connection with the source tune being 'Unerasable Pain' and the remix being just the opposite; the pain being erased after previously being unerasable. So I thought 'A Better Eraser'.but that didn't sound good. I don't remember exactly how I got to 'Tant Mieux', but it's French for 'So much the better'. Didn't feel like thinking anymore after that and I was getting impatient, so I subbed.' 'Dinkles Hurt My Feet' would have been a real show-stealer, but it seems tasteful French prevailed. Things intro mellow with some Badalamentine pads, but pizzicato comes in and livens things up before an in-your-face blend of rock drums, guitar, and C64 SIDpeggio fills your ears with bliss.

There's nice variation with the drums and a bunch of downbeat snare parts, plus a nice extended roll at 3'09' that DID conjure that iconic ' intro, but was nevertheless a cool touch. Other cool touches include rising and falling synth arpeggios, a badass synth solo at 2'34', cutaway ending (fadeout woulda been weak in this instance), and general Sixto production sheen. While his own arrangements are stellar, Juan also seems particularly adept in taking someone else's vision and framing it just right, with production/performance that does every ounce of justice possible. There are certainly worse ways to debut on OCR than having an arrangement of yours with Sixto at the helm on the production side of things, that's for sure.

Dustin's arrangement is solid, though, and kudos for tackling a previously unmixed game and bringing more SaGa love. Great stuff all around.

I don't recall ever hearing this mix for some reason. I only noticed it because it's listed as a Sixto mix. This is a pretty nifty mix, and Sixto's influence really shines through here. It's hard for me to pick out what Dustin did and what Juan did, but in particular I love the guitar combined with the drumming, especially when the snare drums go into their hard hitting rhythmic pattern with the guitar soloing on top.

The arrangement gets a little repetitive towards the end of the song, which is unfortunate, but the song is built strong enough to keep your attention at the least. I think the arrangement is hot, and it's great that Sixto helped out with the performance and production aspects of the track.

Sixto's collabs tend to be epic, mostly because he picks out arrangements that really move on their own. This may be Dustin's only track on the site (atr least as of right now, in late 2009), but his arrangements have consistently been great, and his production is almost there. Extra bonus for the game in question to be a bit overlooked, this track definitely needs to be heard. Awesome work, gents! Romancing Saga Minstrel Iso

Romancing SaGa (ロマンシング サ・ガ Romanshingu Sa・Ga?) is a role-playing video game originally developed and published by Square as the fourth game of their SaGa series. Initially made available in January 1992 for the Super Famicom, the game was later ported to the WonderSwan Color handheld system in December 2002, with both releases being exclusive to Japanese players. In April 2005, an enhanced remake of the title for the PlayStation 2 called Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song (ロマンシング サガ -ミンストレルソング- Romanshingu Sa Ga -Minsutoreru Songu-?) was released in April 2005 in Japan, and in English for the first time in North America the following October simply under the title Romancing SaGa. The game was designed by Akitoshi Kawazu who had served as head developer for the previous SaGa titles, with fellow series veteran Kenji Ito providing the game's soundtrack. In 2009, the original Super Famicom version was ported to mobile phones and the Wii Virtual Console service in Japan. Set in the fictional world of Mardias, Romancing SaGa allows players to assume the role of one of eight main characters who must journey across the world to prevent the resurrection of an evil god named Saruin who was sealed away a millennium previous. The original Super Famicom version sold over a million copies worldwide and was voted by readers of Japanese Famitsu magazine as the 53rd greatest game of all time in a 2006 poll.

Conversely, the PlayStation 2 remake received largely low to average reviews in North America due to the game's high difficulty, steep learning curve, and questionable character design. Extracts to DVD ISO.
